CURIE announces a new liability inspection service available through Tim Higham & Associates Inc. This service consists of site inspections to identify physical risks that could result in a liability claim. The inspections can cover the entire grounds and all buildings or can focus on specific areas of concern. Following the inspection a report will be issued to document any deficiencies and offer recommendations to address them. Whenvever possible, photographs and/or diagrams will be included to clarify the deficiency.
Tim Higham & Associates has been providing risk control inspections for institutions since 1992. Tim Higham is a licensed professional engineer with 22 years of combined engineering and underwriting experience.

Testimonials
The value as I see it with Tim's report is that it provides an "arms length" assessment, which in our environment often provides a level of credibility to senior administration over and above what staff provides. The decision making process related to allocation of available maintenance funding is difficult at any time and the reports provide an independent prioritization in the same manner as would be used industry. There is significant pressure to allocate funds to the "squeaky wheels" which usually are not centred around facilities and deferred maintenance. In our case, the reports were used to inform the decision making process for 2009-2010 and provided a ready tool with the announcement of infrastructure funding from senior levels of government of potential projects which might qualify (in addition to the priorities established by those administrators with responsibility for infrastructure). - Trev Gonnason - University of New Brunswick
Tim attended Trent and spent most of a day touring the university (in the pouring rain), identifying hazards and documenting them with photos. He produced a comprehensive report that identified the hazard and recommended corrective action. I provided a copy of the report to our Physical Resources Department and am pleased to report that well over half of the items identified have since been remediated. I think the photographic evidence was especially persuasive, as well as a set of external eyes pointing out hazards that we had tuned out due to over familiarity. Tim is amiable and afforded me an opportunity to comment on a draft of his report before he issued the final version, to ensure that his observations were accurate. - Louise Fish - Trent University
